New : Sicily in a week from Catania
Sicily, the largest island in the Mediterranean, is an incredibly diverse destination offering a unique combination of natural landscapes, historical treasures and culinary delights.
As part of the opening of the new Brussels-Charleroi - > Catania route from 19 December 2023 with Wizz air, we have put together a week-long travel programme that will allow you to discover Sicily's must-sees. Prepare to be dazzled by the cultural richness and breathtaking scenery of this enchanting island!
- Day 1 - Arrival in Catania, the gateway to Sicily :
Start your Sicilian adventure by landing at Catania airport, ideally located on the island's east coast. Stroll through the streets of the historic centre and discover the famous Piazza del Duomo, home to Catania Cathedral and the Elephant Fountain. Don't miss the lively morning fish market, where you can sample fresh seafood. Afterwards, visit the majestic Ursino Castle, home to the Civic Museum, and admire the Roman amphitheatre in piazza Stesicoro.
- Day 2 - Mount Etna, the island's majestic active volcano :
A visit to Sicily would not be complete without an excursion to Mount Etna. Join a guided tour to discover this active volcano up close. Take a cable car up to the summit and walk around the craters. Admire the lunar landscapes and take some incredible photos. If you're feeling adventurous, you can even hike to the top for an unforgettable experience.
- Day 3 - Taormina, the pearl of Sicily:
Our favourite ❤️: Have you watched the second season of the White Lotus series and fallen in love with the scenery? Toarmina is where you'll find all the charm of this atmosphere. Perched on a hill with a breathtaking view of the sea, Toarmina is the epitome of the best Sicily has to offer and the gateway to the island's most beautiful beach: Isola Bella. You can also explore the narrow streets of the old town and visit Taormina's famous Greek theatre, which offers spectacular views of the coast. Who knows, you might even be lucky enough to be there on the night of a concert. Take advantage of your free time to shop in the local boutiques.
- Day 4 - Syracuse
Syracuse, the cradle of Greek civilisation, is a city steeped in history and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visit the Neapolis archaeological park to discover the ancient Greek theatre and the Roman amphitheatre. Explore the island of Ortygia, the historic heart of Syracuse, with its picturesque alleyways, cathedral and bustling market. Enjoy dinner in one of the city's excellent seafood restaurants.
- Day 5 - Agrigento and the Valley of the Temples
On the fifth day, set off for Agrigento, known for its magnificent Valley of the Temples, an exceptional archaeological site dating back to Greek times. Admire the well-preserved temples dedicated to ancient divinities, such as the Temple of Concord and the Temple of Juno. Enjoy panoramic sea views from this magical place steeped in history.
- Day 6 - Palermo, the capital
Head to Palermo, the Sicilian capital rich in history and culture. Explore the famous cathedral, the Norman Palace and the Palatine Chapel. Visit the Ballarò market for an authentic culinary experience. Be sure to visit Monreale, just outside Palermo, famous for its magnificent Norman cathedral and Byzantine mosaics.
- Day 7: End on a high note with the Aeolian Islands
Embark on an escapade to the Aeolian Islands, a spectacular volcanic archipelago. Visit Lipari, the largest island, to discover its magnificent beaches and historic centre. Explore Vulcano with its natural hot springs, and discover the picturesque villages of Salina and Panarea. Enjoy the unique natural beauty of this enchanting archipelago.
