The airport welcomed 791,591 passengers during the month of May, the best result since the start of the health crisis.

MAY 2022 RESULTS

This month of May was the best since the March 2020 crisis. Brussels South Charleroi Airport welcomed 791,591 passengers, this figure represents a 6% increase in relation to the same month in 2019 (748,913 arriving and departing passengers).  We also observe a 4% growth of additional movements in relation to the pre-covid activity during the same month, 7802 flights were made in 2022 compared with 7472 in 2019.

“These figures show the good recovery of the sector, the airport is increasing activity and the results of the month of May are encouraging, we’re confident for the months to come. We also remain vigilant faced with the social and economic context we are experiencing because our goal is to still maintain the best quality of service possible for our passengers” comments Philippe Verdonck, Chief Executive Officer of Brussels South Charleroi Airport.

SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

BSCA is committed to the following 8 objectives:

Air: Reducing emissions of CO2, pollutant gases and fine particles is one of our priorities. To this end, nearly 30% of our company cars are currently electric and this proportion will continue to increase from year to year.

Water: 5500m3 of drinking water have been saved in 2021 by the use of rain water for sanitary facilities. The airport also has its own waste water processing station. 

Noise: The renewal of the fleet of planes allows their noise impact to be reduced by approximately 30% and their noise perceived on the ground is monitored and analysed in real time in collaboration with SOWAER (Walloon airport company).

Energy: The airport has 1560 photovoltaic panels that supplied it with 475.6 MWH of electricity in 2021.

Ground: The lengthening of the runway to 3200 metres enabled nearly 180,000 m³ of land to be cleaned up on site.

Waste: In 2021, nearly 14 tonnes of waste were recycled. Reducing, re-using and recycling are our three ongoing priorities. This May, bottle banks allowing the recycling of non-returnable glass packaging were installed on the BSCA site with the aim of further improving the waste management plan.

Mobility: We are working on solutions to optimise, reduce and make return trips to the airport green in collaboration with all of our partners. 

Biodiversity: We are active and want to develop new projects whose aim is to assess, protect, favour and improve biodiversity on both the site and in the vicinity of the airport.
